Whether you’re a lucky local or visiting the area, one thing you’ve probably typed into your phone is “coffee near me.” Honestly, can any of us really survive without coffee? The good news is, no matter what you’re looking for, you have plenty of coffee options in and around the Surfside Beach area.
Of course, we’re probably a little biased because we think the Tie-Dyed Coffee Bean is the best local coffee shop in Surfside Beach, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other excellent options for coffee, tea, and various types of yummy food. We wanted to focus specifically on what would be considered “coffee” places, so we certainly left off a number of excellent restaurants and cafes in our area. Let’s jump right in, starting with some local favorites and then diving into some chains in the area.
Local Coffee Shops in Surfside Beach
Let’s jump into some local non-chain coffee spots! Each of these spots offers a unique local style.
The Tie-Dyed Coffee Bean
Hey, it’s us! We offer a super chill environment where you can come and enjoy hot and cold coffees, teas, and more. Operated by two true South Carolina hippies, this spot is nestled right in the heart of Surfside. If coffee shops had personalities, Tie Dyed Coffee would be that vibrant, free‑spirited friend who somehow makes every morning brighter. Walking into their world feels like stepping into a swirl of color, creativity, and unapologetic positivity. The menu is classic coffee comfort with a playful twist – think handcrafted lattes, seasonal specialties, and a vibe that invites you to slow down and savor the moment. You can come on in and work or grab your drink and go!

Benjamin’s Bakery & Café
Founded in 1994 by Lee Zulanch and his father, Benjamin’s Bakery & Café began as a bagel shop to bring authentic New York–style bagels to the Grand Strand. Over time, it expanded into a full bakery and café, offering breads, pastries, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and in‑house roasted coffee. The bakery now supplies more than 100 local businesses and has become a Surfside Beach staple, known for its focus on quality ingredients, personalized service, and community engagement.

Milk & Honey Cafe
Milk & Honey Coffee Cafe is a charming, locally minded spot tucked along US‑17 Business in Surfside Beach. Chef-owner Mason Zeglen—a two-time winner of Guy’s Grocery Games and a contestant on The Big Brunch—opened the café in December 2022 to bring elevated coffee and brunch to the Grand Strand. The café quickly became a favorite with locals and visitors alike for its specialty lattes (think Bee Sting, Maple Sea Salt, Dirty Chai), freshly baked pastries, and photogenic toast creations. With bright, plant-accented décor, an attached plant shop, and friendly service, it serves as a relaxing community gem for morning coffee and light bites.
Scoops & Beans
Scoops & Beans is a dessert and coffee shop concept that pairs freshly brewed coffee with sweet treats. Known for serving ice cream, coffee, tea, smoothies, and light snacks, the shop promotes a laid‑back, inviting environment, often enhanced by free Wi‑Fi and relaxed seating. While variations of the brand appear in different locales, each iteration focuses on simple pleasures: a cozy spot to enjoy a scoop of ice cream, a warm cup of coffee, or both. Its approachable and friendly atmosphere makes it a go‑to choice for casual indulgence.
Garden City Daily Grind
Garden City Daily Grind is a community‑focused coffee shop located in the Myrtle Beach area. Recently relaunched by new ownership, the café blends classic coffeehouse offerings—coffee, tea, and pastries—with local art and a welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors. It positions itself as more than just a place for caffeine, leaning into its role as a neighborhood gathering space that supports local creatives and fosters connection. Its name, “Daily Grind,” reflects both the daily ritual of coffee and the shop’s commitment to being a familiar and consistent part of community life.

The Chain Game
We’re not dunkin’ on chains (lol, sorry Dunkin). They serve a purpose, especially when you’re on the go or in another town and want some consistency. Here are the local chains in our area of Horry County.
Ocean Lakes Starbucks
Starbucks is a familiar national brand, but the Ocean Lakes Village location in Myrtle Beach anchors itself firmly in the surf‑and‑sand mindset of the Grand Strand. Located at 1160 Dick Pond Road, adjacent to the Ocean Lakes Family Campground, it’s become the go‑to pit stop for early‑morning campers grabbing a latte before beach time. While Starbucks delivers on the consistent menu and cushy seating, this spot’s charm comes from its ocean‑front views and the steady procession of flip‑flop‑clad visitors fueling up between sand and surf.

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii
Bad Ass Coffee was born in Hawaii in 1989 with a mission to roast premium Kona and other island beans for mainland coffee lovers. Its 2025 opening at 1708 US‑17 Business in Surfside Beach is run by a local husband‑and‑wife team, B.J. and Dawn Kinard, layering Aloha spirit over bold branding. Unlike stiff, corporate cafés, this spot feels energized by its Hawaiian roots while serving as a neighborhood hangout—full of playful décor, adventurous brews, and a laid‑back vibe that blends island flavor into coastal South Carolina mornings.

East Coast Tea Bar
This rapidly growing bubble tea brand first settled in Myrtle Beach’s Market Common before opening a second store in Surfside Beach in early 2025. Its founding owner, Caitlyn Rapacz, created it out of nostalgia for boba tea from her former home in Springfield, aiming to bring real, customizable Taiwanese‑style drinks to the local coast. While the chain identity offers consistency, each store captures community flair—serving fruit teas, milk teas, smoothies, and quenchers with playful customization, chewy pearls, and a friendly atmosphere that locals describe as “the best boba on the beach.”

Black Rifle Coffee Company
Founded in 2014 by a former Green Beret, Black Rifle Coffee Company builds its brand on veteran support and patriotic coffee culture. Its first South Carolina “Outpost” opened at 118 Loyola Drive in November 2023 and hosted a grand opening with giveaways like cold brew coins for locals. Though part of a broader national mission, the Myrtle Beach location tries to root itself in community by celebrating service members, first responders, and local pride. It blends direct‑to‑consumer flagship energy with a storefront that feels grounded in support, grit, and local connection.
